CSK Sign South African Young Gun Dewald Brevis for Remainder of IPL 2025
Chennai Super Kings have bolstered their squad by signing young South African talent Dewald Brevis for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. Brevis comes in as a replacement for pacer Gurjapneet Singh, filling the final overseas slot in CSK’s roster. Notably, although his base price in the last auction was just INR 75 lakh, the five-time champions have secured him for a significant INR 2.2 crore, Dewald Brevis ipl 2025.

A Major Addition to CSK’s Struggling Line-Up
This move is a major coup for CSK, especially as they aim to climb up from the bottom of the table. Brevis, often referred to as “Baby AB” due to his resemblance to AB de Villiers’ playing style, is regarded as one of the most exciting young prospects in world cricket. While he has limited international experience—only a couple of appearances for South Africa—he has already impressed with stints at Mumbai Indians in the IPL and performances in MLC and SA20.
Incredible T20 Pedigree at Just 21
The 21-year-old has played 81 T20s across leagues and maintains a strike rate close to 145. His recent form has been impressive, particularly in the SA20 earlier this year where he was among the top 10 run-scorers and boasted the highest strike rate of 184.17. He also shone for Titans in domestic cricket, showing his ability in both List A and first-class formats.
Joining a Rebuilding CSK Mid-Season
Brevis becomes the second replacement player to join CSK this season, after Ayush Mhatre was brought in to replace skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. The team currently has just two wins at the halfway mark and is looking for a turnaround. With CSK’s next fixture set against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on April 20, all eyes will be on Brevis as he prepares to face his former IPL franchise.
